ETRA Investigación y Desarrollo, S.A. (ETRA I+D) is BESOS project coordinator.

ETRA I+D, is the hi-tech unit within ETRA Group, one of the leading industrial groups in Spain. Its mission is putting in the market the most advanced solutions and services either directly or through the 10 companies of the Group. The main market areas of ETRA Group are Spain, South-Central America, South East Asia and the EU.

The activity of the company –with a sustained growth of turnover and employees over the years which has reached 250 M€ and 2200 staff in 2010- started in the 70’s and it is centred in the RTD, implementation and commercialisation of advanced real time control and information management systems applied to the sectors of energy, mobility, security and public services. The business area of Energy Management Systems accounts for a substantial 27% of the company turnover.

ETRA brings into the project its technological competence in the energy management domain, its market presence and exploitation capability, and a long success track record of managing successful EU RTD projects in the fields of ICT, control systems and energy –among others-. EMMA, TRACKSS, PECES, NOBEL, SmartKYE and BEAMS are recent examples of large FP6 and FP7 projects led by ETRA.

Universität Duisburg-Essen (UDE)

The Networked Embedded Systems (NES) group was founded in 2009 with the change in position of Prof. Pedro José Marrón, the head of the group, from the Universität Bonn to the Universität Duisburg-Essen. Scientists at NES have worked on research and development projects for government agencies, associations and industry. The focus of the group is communication and cooperation in distributed systems for a wide range of applications such as ambient assisted living (LIVING++, WebDA) and context-aware personal mobile devices (PECES, GAMBAS). Additionally, the group specializes in communication for safety-critical applications such as disaster recovery scenarios and industrial use of unmanned aerial and ground vehicles (AWARE, EC-SAFEMOBILE,
PLANET) and communication in critical infrastructures like smart grids. In the NOBEL project, NES investigates how to communicate efficiently in a next-generation IPv6 enabled smart grid while providing support for legacy installations. In the SkyNet project, the focus lies on integrating information from a diverse set of EMS to allow for new business processes and data analysis applications to support public authorities managing energy in future Smart Cities. Furthermore, UDE has initiated the newly founded European Research Center for Ubiquitous Technologies and Smart Cities (UBICITEC e.V.).
Member of this center and part of the management board are key players in the area like ETRA and NES. The main goal of UBICITEC is to establish a world-class center of excellence on smart cities and ubiquitous technologies to accomplish innovation in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) that is the key enabler to enhance the quality of life for everyone.

Sodexho Facility Management (SDXFM)

Sodexo Facilities Management is a division of Sodexo Spain, a subsidiary of the French multinational Sodexo Aliance which was founded in 1966 and currently operates in 80 countries, with 18,000 million euros in revenues, 420,000 employees, 34,300 delegations, 75 million daily users, being the 20nd largest employer in the world.

Enercast GmbH (ENER)

Enercast GmbH is an international specialist in the field of renewable energies forecasts, based in Kassel, Germany, and allows the planning of the ‘new’ energy. Precise performance forecasts and predictions for wind and solar power plants allow the integration of wind and solar energy into electricity grids and energy markets. The web application enercast is based on specific algorithms developed by Fraunhofer IWES. The calculations are based on artificial intelligence – by the use of neural networks The service calculates exact feeding values for the renewable energy market.
To prevent high costs for balancing energy and to generate addition revenue, enercast offers intraday as well as day ahead forecasts for energy trader. Traders can balance the electricity for every 15 minutes and declare the volumes they wish to market directly.
The enercast platform offers extrapolation and forecasts cost-effectively and easily accessible. All measurement data, radiation as well as weather forecast data, converge on the platform. With this help, enercast can calculate the extrapolations and forecasts and deliver the data to the distribution and transmission network operators reliably and quickly.
Only the most renowned and tested data sources serve as a calculation basis for enercast: Weather Data of the most modern European weather services latest data of over 36,000 photovoltaic plants satellite-based measurement of the actual solar radiation from EUMETSAT.

Portugal Telecom Inovação, SA (PTIN)

Portugal Telecom Inovação, SA develops innovative and competitive services and solutions for the telecommunications market. Lisboa E-Nova Agencia Municipal De Energia E Ambiente De Lisboa (LBN)

LISBOA E-NOVA is a non-profit association operating under private law that seeks to contribute to the sustainable development of the city of Lisbon through mainstreaming good practices in urban planning, construction, urban management and mobility, involving all the city’s key stakeholders, among political decision makers, all major urban stakeholders and the citizens of Lisbon. LISBOA E-NOVA is composed by a General Assembly, a Board of Administrators, a Consultancy Committee and a Supervisory Board.
The General Assembly comprises 26 affiliates who are active in very distinct sectors, including local administration, education, water and energy utilities, transport, among others. LISBOA E-NOVA is responsible for the development and monitoring of Lisbon’s Energy-Environment Strategy, signed by the Lisbon Municipality in 2008, setting targets in the field of energy, water and materials resources, for the period from 2009 to 2013.
Lisboa E-Nova also coordinates Lisbon’s participation in the Covenant of Mayors assuring the communication with the European Commission and the status of results. Within this context Lisboa E-Nova coordinates several projects, both in the technical and communication fields, with which it addresses the sustainability challenges that the Lisbon city faces, raising the awareness of all key stakeholders and motivating their participation in the systematic and continuous improvement of the city’s energy and environmental performance.

Ajuntament de Barcelona (BCN)

Barcelona Municipality is the local authority responsible for services for the city of Barcelona. The City Council has the competencies and develops different activities in the city: prevention, safety and mobility, urban planning and infrastructures, education, culture and social welfare, social action, environment and urban services and economic promotion.
Barcelona is one of the major European metropolises with more than 3.5 million inhabitants. It is the sixth largest metropolitan and fifth largest industrial agglomeration in Europe. Today the city and its surrounding area act as a centre of economic activities related to new technologies and advanced services in the framework of the information society.
The Barcelona City Council is strongly involved in the city transformation towards a real Smart City and taking the European leadership in that process. In order to promote the development of advanced sensors and city management solutions and foster the use of open innovation practices, the municipality launched in 2009 the “Barcelona City Lab”.
It is a part of the city including housing and working spaces and telecom infrastructures to be used by companies as a laboratory to test products in real conditions. Up to now more than 20 projects are on the process of testing their products and inventions in the Barcelona City Lab.
